The Philippines U16 Football Team lost 12-0 to Japan on the first day of the Group E qualifiers for the AFC Championship Qualifiers. Our boys tried their best but were outclassed by the Japanese players. A crowd of 2500 cheered our boys on in Panaad Stadium, Bacolod City. In the second match Indonesia and Bangladesh were held to a 0-0 scoreless draw. The Philippines will next face Chinese Taipei 2pm Oct. 5 at the Panaad Stadium.

JOAN TIPON mauled his Sri Lankan opponent on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila) to provide the Filipinos another victory in the 15th AIBA World Boxing Championship at the Mediolanum Forum in Milan Italy.
Tipon, 27, a bantamweight campaigner known for his fast and strong punches, whacked former sparring partner Kamai Gamathiralalage 8-3, after a third round explosion to clinch the win and advance to the round-of-32.
He will face a tough Abdelhaim Ouradi of Algeria.
But the Filipinos failed to keep a clean record when lightweight Joegin Ladon proved to be an easy target for the much taller Thomas Stalker of England. Ladon took a 4-11 beating to become the first casualty of the five-member RP squad.
Tipon, a former Asian Games champion who once thought of retirement, connected with one good punch after another in the third round to turn a close contest into a blow out.
“He improved well,” said Tipon of the Sri Lankan, whom he sparred with several times during a training camp in Baguio City when they prepared for the 2007 world championship in Chicago which also served as the Beijing Olympics qualifier.

The national dragon boat squad wrapped up its campaign with one more silver medal in the men’s 500-meter Premier Open of the prestigious Ninth World Dragon Boat Racing Championships held in Prague, Czech Republic.
The Filipinos registered a time of one minute and 55.575 seconds to finish second in the said event behind eventual champion China which crossed the tape in 1:54.210.
Russia wound up third with 1:56.594 followed by Germany (1:59.550), Hungary (2:02.263) and the United States (2:02.490).
Earlier, the Philippines ruled the men’s 200-meter Premier Open in record-breaking fashion of 40.022 seconds, and the 200-meter Premier Mixed event in 43.507 seconds.
