When professional athletes win the game with an unexplanable kind of shot, when a hole in one was made, when a basketball shot under the court with 1 second left with 3 people guarding you and all of a sudden your hand went through 6 other hands trying to block you, and when you needed your last 3 shots to strike and you did all of what was mentioned, and during the interview the usual answer is "I dont't know guess it went in"is it the mental game or is it the other you? The mental game is really a mystery if you would accept the usual ahtlete's reply. But let me try to give my side of the answer base on being also an athlete and sometimes doing the same shots and base on research by sports psychologist. Lets just put it more on the natural flow of things, let me open up by quoting one training phrase "its one thing to learn something mentally, and its another thing to apply it physically". Simply said training initially puts your mind into storing mode, it stores all information of the training, the techniques, the kind of shots, the angles, body movements and many more. this amount of information is stored and access during games and is given a level of efficiency by our mind specially in clutch situations. Remember saying that its the feel of the shot the feeling in that instant ,nothing comes to mind its like a 1 second memory gap but in reality your mind goes on automatic. Its the result of the long hours of practice storing and refining the information and the mind coming up with the best solution for that situation. In closing let me quote the line in Tom Cruise's movie "The Last Samurai" remember the phrase "NO MIND" that is not a script it is a real word in Japanese samurai archery they call it "MUSHIN". So athletes remember do it without the mind, it is the asian counter part of "Practice Makes Perfect. What does Mushin means? lets make this blog interesting for us athletes, look for the meaning so that you will find. Remember "NO MIND".
